Basic Volunteer Requirements


Begin volunteering in four easy steps!

The basic requirements for adults, excluding agency staff, who would like to attend an NYC ICO trip are:

  • attend an NYC ICO New Volunteer Orientation (see the Events page for dates, times, and locations);
  • be a current membership of the Sierra Club (visit the Sierra Club website to join);
  • be at least 18 years old;
  • complete and sign the following forms
    • Volunteer Application in Word or PDF
    • ICO Code of Ethics in Word or PDF

Once a Basic Volunteer has attended a minimum of two ICO outings, they may begin working on certification requirements to become an ICO Certified Leader!
