Kingsbridge Picks Apples Print E-mail

On Saturday Oct 11 Ray, Elisabeth, Chenoa, Emily, and Mina lead the Kingsbridge high school group of 18 awesome kids on a fantastic apple picking / hiking trip!  We loaded up the bus along with the Camp Interactive kids, Craig, and his adorable dog Jazz, and headed across the Tappan Zee to Dr. Davies apple orchard.   We broke into groups of 5 and filled up our apple bags so they were overflowing.  Snacking on apples all along the way, the kids really enjoyed reaching for the apples at the tops of the trees and taking tons of photos of themselves using the long apple picker.

Nissequoque Kayaks Print E-mail

Six kids and seven adults left Huntington House on September 20 about 10:30.  We had to get there to our destination in time to ride the incoming water on Long Island's  Nissequoque River by 12:00.  We arrived at the park in Smithtown and were shuttled to the Bluff at the mouth of the Nissequoque on the Long Island Sound.  After a couple of warm-up-get-to-know-you games, we spent about ten minutes getting comfortable with our kayak paddles.  And then it was on the water.

History and Camping Print E-mail

After a few hours of driving, accompanied by talking and loud music, Huntington House kids and adolescents and ICO volunteers arrived at Batsto Village in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Batsto is a reproduction an 18th and 19th century village, a time when the Pine Barrens was a center of industry.  Soon, we would go to our campsite for some swimming and dinner.  First, however, we had to check in at the Wharton State Forest headquarters and get our campsite assignment, after which we took a walk around the village.
