March 23, 2009 -- On Saturday, March 21 the Kingsbridge crew met early in the Bronx and organized a small but dedicated group of kids, volunteers and Certified Leader Ray Greenwell for a day of urban scavenger hunting in Central Park.

PS 174 at Central Park Zoo Print E-mail

March 14, 2009 -- From deep in Brooklyn, PS 174 students took the subway to Manhattan's Central Park to visit the Zoo. We began our tour with a walk through the rain forest.  We saw black-and-white lemurs.  We got to hear them make loud calls in the forest.  We also saw Victoria crowned pigeons and bats that were hanging upside down.  The bats, of course, fired up a conversation about being bitten and vampires.  Then it was on see some raccoons, who played shy and wouldn't show themselves.  Disappointed. we walked over to the arctic exhibit.

P.S. 174 Skates On Thick Ice Print E-mail

January 24, 2009 -- ICO students and volunteers met at P.S. 174 at 8:45. We arrived at Bear Mountain earlier than usual so the boys enjoyed a quick game of two-hand touch football. Some girls played tag in the snow while the others sat and relaxed on the rocking chairs. 

The day was full of firsts.

Fun in the Snow with Kingsbridge and CI Print E-mail

February 7, 2009 -- We piled onto a big tour bus along with a group from Camp Interactive and left Kingsbridge High School just past 9:30 a.m. Amin popped “Night at the Museum” into the DVD player and we rode to Bear Mountain in style.

After arriving at Bear Mountain, we put on our warm gear and grabbed a snack (Lunch Part I, as Ray calls it) at a picnic area. The carousel building was closed for a party so we had no place to retreat from the cold. Instead, we just kept moving; we ran out to a snowy field beneath a cloudy sky for snow wrestling and serious games of Assassin and the Environmental Game. If you managed to stay on your feet for more than a minute, you had real power.
